Portillo's Italian Beef Sandwiches
Drippy, cheesy, Chicago-style beef... homemade and maybe even as good as the real thing, so you can get as messy as you want eating a these!
Equipment
- 6-8 Quart Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 1 large chuck roast
- 1 pkg Good Seasons Italian dressing mix
- 1 pkg onion soup mix
- 1 tablespoon all purpose seasoning (I like Lawry's)
- 1 stick butter, salted
- ½ cup beef broth
- ½ cup banana pepper juice
- ½ cup sliced banana peppers
- ½ cup Marconi hot giardiniera
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 6 hoagie rolls, toasted
- 1 lb sliced provolone cheese
Instructions
- Place chuck roast in crockpot. Sprinkle with Italian dressing, onion soup mix, and all purpose seasoning.
- Add butter, beef broth, banana pepper juice, sliced banana peppers, and giardiniera.
- Cook on low 6-8 hours or high 4-5 hours, until beef is fork-tender. Shred.
- Toss in sliced green bell pepper for the last hour.
- Load into hoagie rolls when you're ready to serve, pile on the provolone cheese, and broil until bubbly + golden.
Add at least two layers of provolone cheese for that extra melty cheese bite.
